Women who are unhappy with the size and shape of their breasts may be interested in breast-enhancement surgery. There are a number of enhancement surgeries out there, and the two most popular options are breast augmentation with implants and the breast lift.

Breast augmentation: The process of using breast implants to increase the size, fullness, and projection of a woman’s breasts.

Breast lift: A procedure undertaken to raise sagging breasts, making them look perkier and more youthful. Breast lifts can also help to correct breasts that hang at different lengths, flat elongated breasts, enlarged areolae, and downward-pointing nipples.

In cases where women would like to increase the size of their breasts while also eliminating sagging, Dr. Gikas can combine breast augmentation with a breast lift. Also known as augmentation mastopexy, this combination procedure offers a number of benefits and is the ideal choice for many patients.

Who Can Get Augmentation Mastopexy?

If a woman is unhappy with the changes to her breasts as a result of aging, weight gain or loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding, hereditary factors, or the constant pull of gravity, she is a good candidate for augmentation mastopexy.

Being physically healthy, a non-smoker, and not overweight are the primary criteria for augmentation mastopexy. This procedure is not recommended for younger women whose breasts are not fully developed.

The Augmentation-Mastopexy Procedure

One major benefit of augmentation mastopexy over getting both procedures done individually is that this surgery only requires a single surgical session. This means that only a single recovery period will be needed.

When considering augmentation mastopexy, it is important for the patient to know the details of the procedure. It is done under general anesthesia and typically begins with breast augmentation.

First, incisions are made. These may be located within the armpits, in the breast crease, or around the areolae. Pockets are made in the tissues and the implants are inserted into these pockets through the incisions. The incisions are closed with sutures, surgical tape, or adhesive.

After the augmentation is completed, the breast lift can be performed. This involves the creation of incision lines based on the degree of lift the patient desires.

After making the incisions, Dr. Gikas lifts and reshapes the breast tissues. Excess skin will be removed, and the remaining skin will be tightened. The nipples and areolae may be resized and repositioned to fit the new dimensions of the breasts. The incisions are sealed in the same manner as the breast augmentation incisions.

Results

The results of the procedure are visible immediately afterwards. There may be swelling and tenderness of the breasts for a few days or weeks afterward. After the swelling has gone down completely, the final results will be evident.
